Does Life Feel Like It's Too Late and Too Far?

A few years ago, our granddaughter Scarlett started pre-school. At the end of her first day, Lisa (who Scarlett calls 'Missy') was FaceTime-ing with her to see how her day went. Lisa said, "Scarlett, tell Missy all about your first day of school." Scarlett had had a long day. She was very tired, and she wanted to go to sleep. She looked into the camera, held up her hand, and said, "No Missy. It's too late and too far." That's all Scarlett had to say.  Too late and too far. Have you ever had a day like that? Sometimes, it seems like our whole life is too late and too far. It's too much, too hard, too expensive, too painful. We can't bring ourselves to face it, or even talk about it, because it's too late and too far. Fortunately, Scarlett got a good night's sleep and the next day she was great, ready for another day at school. But in life, sometimes a little rest isn't enough to fix whatever it is that has us feeling like it's too late and too far.  If you're in a situation like that: the marriage is too far gone, the payments are too late, the tumor is too invasive, the stress is too much, I want to encourage you. It's not too late, and it's not too far.  Circumstances in life can really be difficult. Life can be a war, even when you're not in an actual war. But you can be at peace anyway. To the tired, Jesus said: "Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) To the weak, God promised: "I can be content in any and every situation through the Anointed One who is my power and strength." (Philippians 4:13) To those worried about their government, or their country's future, God said: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (II Chronicles 7:14)

Here's the thing: You can be at rest, at peace, happy, and even joyful regardless of the circumstances of your life. God's on your side, and His promises are always there for the taking to make sure we can enjoy the life He's given us, even when it's hard.

It's not too late or too far, friend. You just have to start today.
